Coming to the Midwest: “New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries”

Posted on November 28, 2011June 8, 2016 by admin

At last year's "New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries" course in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Blaise Dubois is in the red jacket and shoes right in the middle. I am nearest the camera in the blue jacket and hat, and Danny Dreyer is to his right in the blue jacket/black hat and blue/yellow shoes. The other instructor, Sean Cannon is on the left in the black hat, black/gray jacket, and black tights. Most everyone else is a PT, trainer, or sports doctor. Photo by Pete Larson.

My good friend Blaise Dubois is a physiotherapist who teaches at the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University. Blaise has developed the Running Clinic Canada and has taught over 50 conferences around the world. Two of those conferences named “New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries”were held in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The inaugural U.S. course, which was held in January 2011,  brought widespread and much-needed attention to improved prevention and treatment of injury. I was glad to be involved with the organization and logistics of the course; we had a stellar group of footwear and health experts on board for the several-day event.  Blaise, however, isn’t slowing down either. His involvement with the Canadian athletics team has led him to travel around the world enriching his knowledge and adapting his clinical approach. There is no one who knows the research better than Blaise; he can cite specific studies by name, date, and researcher.

On February 24-26, 2012, Blaise and the Running Clinic will once again be conducting “New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries”, but this time it will be held in the Midwest. Kyle Roberts who owns the Revolution Natural Running Store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be hosting the three-day course. Built from more than a thousand scientific articles and systematic reviews, the course questions many current practices in the treatment of both runners and non-runners alike. With high quality audio-visual material, this course will integrate the theory and practice of a number of advanced concepts on running.Topics include: injury etiology and theory;
diagnosis and treatment of injury; planning of training sessions; biomechanical gait analyses; analysis of the running shoe; efficient running form; optional group runs with experts in the field.

    I have been following Blais Dubois articles for a while and I totally agree that he really knows his stuff. This recent video of his debate on running footwear demonstrates his great knowledge: http://vimeo.com/32262234

    I am curious to know what shoes he is wearing in the picture above. I don’t recognize them.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Jackie
